Brush Burning Ban In Effect March 16-May 14th

Starting Saturday, March 16th until May 14th, the annual New York State Brush Burning Ban will be in effect. No outdoor open brush burning is allowed during this period. At this time, you may still burn a contained fire such as in a small fire-pit. *Never leave a fire unattended.

Several factors enable wildfires to start easily and spread quickly at this time, including the lack of green vegetation, abundance of available fuels such as dry grass and leaves, warm temperatures and wind.

After May 14th you can obtain a free brush burning permit at the Town Clerk’s office.

Burning garbage and leaves is strictly against the law all year.
This law was enacted in 2009 and has been very effective in preventing wildfires.
