Shandaken Recycling Center is located behind the Town Hall at 7209 Rt. 28 Shandaken. Please take note of our specifications!

Description: Recycle paper, cans, glass, metal, cardboard & Some Plastic . CLEAN Bubble Wrap accepted – give to recycling attendant.      Food Scrap Recycling Now Open!

Hours: Mon., Thurs., Sat. – 7:30AM thru 12:30PMNO GARBAGE Allowed

Bears may make the mess – but you are responsible to clean it up. Yes! even on your own property!.. according to Town Law: 88.3 “No person shall throw or deposit litter in or upon any private place within the town, other than within a private receptacle, except under such circumstances that such litter cannot be propelled by the wind or other natural cause onto or within any public place.”

 

There is no Garbage Transfer station in the Town of Shandaken.  You may contact private companies to pick up your garbage or residents are welcome to bring their household garbage to the  Saugerties Transfer Station located just past Woodstock at #1765 Rt. 212.

Annual permit for Shandaken residents available for  $35 If you are a 2nd homeowner, you may have to show a shandaken tax bill or utility bill to purchase a permit.  *update 5/2021 closed Wednesday & Thursdays

 There are two local Waste Removal companies that service our area:  Waste Management 845-338-8011 www.wm.com OR County Waste 845-246-8834. There may be others, google for our area.

Open Burning of Brush – (Small Piles for Yard Clean-Up) is permitted from May 15-March 14th – if you have a burning permit (Available at Town Clerk’s Office). Burning of Garbage, Leaves & Paper is no longer allowed in NYS. MORE INFO
