Severe Thunderstorms This is a Town of Shandaken Weather Alert. Severe thunderstorms are expected to our region today, Monday afternoon to early evening. High winds may cause downed trees and wires and possible outages. Heavy downpours may cause localized flooding. Please do not drive over downed wires or through flooded roadways. Prepare for outages. If you see any issues, or feel at risk, call 911. Flood Watch The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for our area until 2pm today. Persistent heavy rain may result in local flooding due to poor drainage , and localized flash flooding is possible where the heaviest rainfall occurs. Watch for flooding in roadways, small streams, low lying areas and poor drainage locations Drive with caution. Never drive through flooded roadways or over downed power lines in the road. Trees may block roads. If you see any issues, call 911. Prepare for power outages. Stay Safe. High Wind This is a Town of Shandaken weather alert. National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Advisory for our area 5pm today until 7am Saturday. High winds with gusts up to fifty miles per hour , and may bring down tree limbs and cause power outages. Travel will also be difficult. High profile vehicles should use caution when driving. Please check on neighbors. Fire stations will be open during extended power outages. If you know someone at risk or in an emergency, call nine one one. Snow Alert This is a town of Shandaken Weather Alert. A WINTER STORM event will impact our area, Starting today at 6 p m through Tuesday morning. Snowfall rates in excess of 1" per hour may result in hazardous travel conditions, downed branches, and isolated power outages. Plan on low visibility & slippery road conditions, which will impact travel. Please Stay off the roads if you can. Please check on neighbors who may be at risk. Call nine one one if you have an emergency. Be prepared in case of power outages. Dogs are not to be tethered outside during a weather event. Dangerous to life threatening temperatures will occur Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings. Temps will drop to around zero. Exposed pipes may freeze. Extreme cold can be dangerous for outdoor activities Please be prepared. Low Water system This is a Phoenicia Water District alert. Due to the Drought Conditions, our water system is extremely low. Filling of pools, washing cars, watering of lawns is prohibited at this time. Please Conserve Water. Starting Wednesday, March 16th until May 14th, the annual New York State Brush Burning Ban will be in effect. No outdoor open brush burning is allowed during this period. At this time, you may still burn a contained fire such as in a small fire-pit. After May 14th you can obtain a burning permit at the Town Clerk’s office – free of charge. Burning garbage and leaves is strictly against the law year round. Thank You. Several factors enable wildfires to start easily and spread quickly at this time, including the lack of green vegetation, abundance of available fuels such as dry grass and leaves, warm temperatures and wind. Please place metal out by road by Sunday June 12th. METAL ONLY. Pickup will start Monday in Highmount and proceed to Mount Tremper. Please, Do Not put metal out before Saturday June 11th. BURN BAN The Town of Shandaken has extended the State of Emergency Burn Ban that was enacted on Wednesday, August 24, 2022. Due to the drought conditions and the town’s water supply, there is an increased risk of wildfires. The safety of the citizens and visitors of the Town of Shandaken are of utmost concern. All Outdoor burning of brush, bonfires, Fire Pits, campfires, warming fires, outdoor fireplaces, chimneys and cooking fires within the Town of Shandaken is prohibited.  Food that is cooked within a gas or charcoal grill is still permitted. Also Phoenicia and Pine Hill Water Districts are under Restrictive Usage Orders. This State of Emergency will remain in effect until further notice. Thank You, and Stay Safe!
