Shandaken’s Housing Smart committee meets every 4th Monday at 6pm.
WHO WE ARE
The Town of Shandaken Housing Smart committee is a community-led housing working group that will help municipal staff and local elected/appointed officials (e.g., Town Board, Planning Board) to implement the set of Housing Smart Actions included in the Ulster County Housing Smart Communities Initiative.
GOALS
The Task Force will work collaboratively with community partners to achieve the following goals:
- Educate residents about the housing crisis and its impacts on the Town of Shandaken.
- Compile and share informational resources that can help local residents with a variety of housing needs, including grants and other programs available to homeowners and tenants.
- Gather key housing data and information to aid the Town of Shandaken in identifying possible methods and locations for increasing housing density.
- Work with local officials, the Comprehensive Plan Committee and interested members of our community to create a Housing Action Plan that will prioritize a list of Housing Smart Actions and other strategies for implementation in the Town of Shandaken.

- Rupco RESTORE program – provides funding for emergency repairs, replacements, and modifications to help seniors aged 60+ live independently and safely in their homes. (Grants of up to $20,000 per project)
