Town Board Responsible for adopting Local Laws, makes appointments to other boards and committees, manages municipal employment policies and is responsible for the town budget and financial matters.

Supervisor Chief Fiscal Officer of the town and Chief Operating Officer for all town departments, with the exception of the Highway Department. Sets the agenda and serves as the Chair of the Town Board.

Town Clerk / Tax Collector Responsible for recording the business of Town government and also serves as a repository for a wide variety of Town documents. In Shandaken, also the Tax Collector and the Registrar of Vital Statistics.

Assessor Responsible for the determining the value of properties for the assessment of property tax and  administers subsidy programs, such as the Star Exemption and other programs.

Highway Department Maintains all town roads and bridges.The Highway Department is administered by the Highway Superintendent, who is an elected official, and is responsible for highway budgets and operations.

Justice Court Vehicle and Traffic Violations, Small Claims Court, Orders of Protection, Weddings.

Building Inspector,
Zoning Enforcement Officer and Codes
Permits are required for: All things structural, extension of plumbing & electric, signs.
Planning Board Determinations on minor and major sub-divisions, site plans, special use permits.

Zoning Board of Appeals
Variances and  appeals.

Social Services The director is the Ulster County liaison who helps in getting services to individuals and families. List of additional area services and charitable organizations that accept donations and volunteers inspired to help others..

Assessment Review Determinations on tax disputes held on Grievance Day.

Ethics Board Determinations on conflicts of interest.

Dog Control Dog Control, Shelter & Adoption. Volunteer to walk dogs.

Recycling Center Recycle paper,cardboard, metal, glass, cans

Phoenicia Water Committee
All Committees are volunteer members of the community that help the Town Board to arrive at decisions, work on improvements,  investigate and begin new projects and/or plans.
